America Counts - Math Mentor

Responsibilities:

  • Tutor 4th grade children in mathematics at least six (6) hours per week.
  • Schedules will vary and will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
  • Attend and actively participate in all planning meetings with mentors, Site Supervisor, and Team Leader, including weekly site meetings.
  • Attend and actively participate in all required trainings, meetings and reflection activities, including Primary Training, monthly Training & Development, and Professional Development and Planning Meetings.
  • Prepare, organize and facilitate afterschool activities, lessons, and long-term projects using America Counts resource binders, manipulatives, and supplies.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a UM student
  • Must have Federal Work-Study eligibility
  • Must make a one-semester commitment to the program and attend orientation and primary training
  • Flexibility in scheduling and placement
  • Basic math skills/competencies
  • Available to work a minimum of six (6) hours per week
  • Demonstrate ability and eagerness to work with children

Preferred but not mandatory:

  • Experience with and/or coursework in multilingual, multicultural settings
  • Foreign language skills
  • Access to a car

Math Mentors earn $10.00 per hour the first semester and are eligible for pay increases in subsequent semesters.
